Meet the AI Website Assistant That Books Calls and Answers Questions

A website assistant needs a clear job. “Answer everything and increase sales” does not provide enough direction to build or evaluate one. A better brief names the questions it should answer, the actions it may take and the situations it should hand to a person.

The right scope depends on the business. A product catalog, a local service company and a dealer portal have different information and access requirements. Begin with the customer journey that needs improvement.

Separate answers from actions

An answer uses approved information to explain something. An action changes a record, creates a booking or starts another business process. The second needs a confirmed connection, permission rules and a way to handle failure.

For example, explaining how appointments work is different from reserving a time. Describing a return policy is different from approving a return. Write these distinctions into the scope so the assistant does not imply that a task is complete when it has only discussed it.

Build a maintainable knowledge source

List the pages, documents and records the assistant may use. Remove retired offers and resolve conflicting facts. Identify who owns information such as service areas, product details and pricing conditions.

Decide how updates reach the assistant. A manually uploaded document may become stale when the website changes. A connected source needs its own refresh and error checks. Test whether the answer reflects a changed fact instead of assuming an update propagated.

Set useful boundaries

Define what the assistant should do when it does not know. A good fallback can identify the missing information, offer a relevant page or collect a question for staff. Repeating a confident but unsupported answer makes the experience worse.

  • Answer routine questions from approved sources.
  • Ask a focused follow-up when information is missing.
  • Show the relevant page or product details.
  • Collect an inquiry with the customer’s preferred contact method.
  • Hand off requests outside the agreed scope.

These are starting options, not an automatic list of included features. Booking, order access and account changes need their own implementation and tests.

Prepare a realistic evaluation set

Use common questions, unusual wording and difficult cases. Include outdated product names, missing information and a request to speak to a person. Review whether the answers are correct and useful, not merely fluent.

If the assistant uses private information, test who can access which records. A customer supplying an order number should not automatically gain access to everything associated with it. The system needs appropriate verification for the information involved.

Plan for operation after launch

Assign responsibility for reviewing unresolved questions and updating the source material. Agree on support hours, usage costs and how faults are reported. Automated service may operate outside business hours without implying round-the-clock human support.

For complex product information, the data and document skills shown in DOYJO’s Mac-Tech project can be relevant to preparing a dependable foundation. The assistant itself still needs a scope and evaluation appropriate to its particular job.
